There is No Coffee in Mexico

See this content in the original post

Well, of course, there is coffee in Mexico. I’ve bought some at Whole Foods in the past. But my friends at Dark Matter — who want nothing more than to source coffee from Mexico — have run into nothing but trouble. So what can we learn from that? It’s a caffeinated, globetrotting episode of Agave Road Trip!

Agave Road Trip is a critically acclaimed, award-winning podcast that helps gringx bartenders better understand agave, agave spirits, and rural Mexico. Lou Bank hosts this episode alongside Aaron Campos of Dark Matter Coffee.

Episode Notes

To be fair, you will find some beans sourced from Mexico among the Dark Matter offerings. But they’re limited and rare — like, for instance, this special release they did with Rick Bayless’ Frontera. Holiday gift, anyone? (And if you do go with that gift, don’t sleep on the Sleep Walk chocolate!)

That special release with Chef Bayless was sourced from Unión Majomut Cooperative. Go to Chiapas and check them out!

The episode I reference at the end of this episode actually ran a few weeks ago: “The Beautiful Inconsistencies of Coffee and Mezcal.”
