What do you do with the tiny bits of mezcal left in your bottles?

There’s this concept of the infinity bottle in other spirits – where you take the last bits of favorite bottles, pour them together over time to make this ever-changing blend. But … can you do that in mezcal? Without getting kicked out of a Facebook group? We tamper with the forces of nature in this episode of Agave Road Trip!

Agave Road Trip is a critically acclaimed, award-winning podcast that helps gringx bartenders better understand agave, agave spirits, and rural Mexico. It’s hosted by Lou Bank and Chava Periban.

Episode Notes

Road-tripper Andrew W checked in with this thought:

When I first went to Oaxaca I needed to empty 2 ounces of each filled plastic bottle to allow it to expand on the flight back home. I ended up drinking too much and missed my early morning flight the next day. Bad idea. The next time I traveled back I still didn't like the idea of wasting a few liters of mezcal so I decided I could fill a couple of bottles with a mix of all the mezcals, and use it for cocktails. It's perfect for when you want a mezcal cocktail and aren't looking for a specific expression of mezcal. Yes, this isn't an art-of-blending thing, but as long as the agave spirit is decent going into the jug then it will work fine for a cocktail. There's no need to get gross by adding other types of spirits to it. Just stick to any decent agave spirit.
