Karla Alindahao’s Forbes article from April 2020 in which I suggest Monte Alban to PBR drinkers, both because I think it works and also because I expect it to make some people nuts.

In fact, it was so much fun the first time …

Hey, if you’re the kind of person who enjoys drinking PBR, you may also be the kind of person who enjoys drinking Monte Alban Mezcal. I mean, I don’t particularly love — but I don’t love PBR, either. And both outsell most of the drinks I do love, so if anyone is wrong here, it’s probably me.

Chava was drinking a tepemete spirit from Durango. I’m guessing it was something he bought from a small producer, but, hey, it gives me the opportunity to tag my friends at Lagrimas de Dolores.

Esteban Morales Garibi of La Venenosa and Derrumbes opened my eyes to the idea that 38% ABV mezcal can be beautiful and traditional — which is funny, given that he’s the only guy to bring a bottle of puntas to market in the USA.

I hated Zignum for the longest time. Then I met some of the people who work there. They’re nice people! And then I met a spirits geek who loves their mezcal — which opened my eyes to the idea that my palate isn’t the “correct” palate. Drink until you find stuff you love, then keep drinking it. But, you know, responsibly.

Dammit! This is Willie Wilcox, drummer for Utopia. I refer in this ChatFest to Woody Woodmansey as the drummer for Utopia — but Woody was the drummer for David Bowie. But those names … come on. And they’re both drummers? That’s forgivable, right? Anyway, you can watch a video of Willie and Utopia playing “Just One Victory” by clicking here.

A video of The Tubes in concert, so you have a sense of the size of their stage show — which is maybe not a bog deal now, but in 1984? That was a big stage show.
